Insurance: Why an Agent?

You might be asking yourself why you need a health insurance agent. I know I wondered that the first time I came into contact with one. How much will it cost me? What do you do for me? Let me answers those questions for you.

Using a health insurance agent in their official capacity is free to you. Agent's are not allowed to charge for the services they render when they service a policy they sold you. In fact, in order for an agent to charge you for services, they must be billing you under a different business entity that is not attached to their health insurance business and it cannot be in relation to a sale.

This likely leaves you wondering, how do we get paid? Let me share that with you. When we write an application for an insurance agency, we are 1099 contractor and the carrier pays us directly a small portion of your policy. Does this increase your monthly premium? No, it does not. The rate that I provide to you will be the exact same rate the carrier would provide you if you contacted them directly.

That leads us to the big question-- why do you need an agent? If you can call the carrier yourself and enroll, what is the purpose of an agent's job? The answer to that is quite in depth, but let me give you the nutshell version.

An agent is working on behalf of your best interest. I always tell my client's it's about your bottom line, not mine. My duty is to choose the most cost-efficient plan for your particular needs. To do that, there are a variety of different of things I take into consideration as well as quoting methods I will use. I have access to all of the carrier's in California that work with agents, which gives me the ability to compare these costs side by side to make sure you are truly getting the best bang for your buck.

In addition to that, every year as open enrollment approaches, I will be reviewing the applicable policies you have to make sure you are still on the most cost-efficient plan for your particular needs. This isn't something you have to ask me to do, this is part of my normal procedure. You are given the choice to make a change if I can find you a savings, but you are also able to stay exactly where you are. Fair warning, though, if there is a substantial savings I will definitely encourage you to move! Otherwise, I wouldn't be doing my job.

I will also give you the tools needed to navigate the healthcare system (to the best of my ability) and offer guidance whenever I am able.

This website has a variety of reference and resource materials that I encourage you to review. If you have a question that isn't answered in the reference materials or in the FAQ (or you just want to ask me!), please drop me an email or give me a call.
